Follow up and Follow through.

Today there has got to be more resumes being sent out like no other time in history.  Email servers across the country are working over time, but how many of those resumes actually get to where they needed to go? I literally receive about 100 plus resumes a day and what is interesting to me is out of 100 only 2 people will follow up with me for a response.  Are people just blanketing their resume without a plan to any email address that they come across?

It is important to follow through with your transmissions but the problem is you don’t even know if it was received.  MyJobCAST.com is a tool that will not only tell you if your resume was received but if it was looked at.

I would have to say that persistence is something that more and more people lack.  I don’t want to get into the reasons why that is, but one should know if his or her resume was received and if so what the next step is.

    Jeff,

I recently followed up with a company by contacting the number listed in the job posting. I spoke with the HR Director who confirmed he received the resume and told me he would not be hiring until the end of the month. He then mentioned that the position would be reporting to the Employee Relations Manager. I followed up with thank you note to the HR Director for speaking to me and a phone call to the Employee Relations Director and received her voice mail. I later sent an e-mail with my resume attached reiterating my interst in the company.

Knowing they weren’t hiring until the end of the month, I contacted a store manager for an informational interview to prepare me for if and when they called.

I received an e-mail from the HR Director who I orginally spoke with saying, “We know you’re interested in the job. We’ve received your emails, notes and phone calls. Additional contact is not necessary.”

This all took place within a three week period of time. Was this overkill? Am I being too aggressive?

    Thanks,

    Kim

I think in this day and aged we have been conditioned not to follow up. We are led to believe that what you call persistence looks too much like desperation and that if they want us they will contact us. If this has changed, I think all of us jobseekers would like to know.

Yeah, follow up…. You mean after your told they won’t communicate with anyone unless they intend to interview them for the job? Seems contradictory to the general corporate communication directive being tossed all over the web and traditional places these days.

Company’s seem to go out of there way to hide from acknowledging you as an human being. If they don’t feel your valid to their criteria they don’t want to have to deal with you. You don’t get a say, you are a number on a form and reviewed by faceless entities with a mystic system of evaluation if if your are not found desirable you are ignored!

Don’t call us, we’ll call you, honest, we will, trust us…
